The main thrust areas of field workers under this project are to make the villagers in and around Mirpur aware of the need for:----
FAMILY PLANNING
LOOKING AFTER CHILDREN WHO ARE ILL
TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN HEALTH PROBLEMS
ENSURING AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE LEVEL OF LITERACY
EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN TO MAKE THEM FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT
Various avenues are followed for this purpose. These include —
HOME VISITS
GROUP MEETING
GENERAL MEETINGS
SEMINARS
S.N.D.M.A has a team of trained staff to organize these programs.
On home visits, social workers and field workers try to make family members aware of ways to live a healthy happy life. A number of families are called together to discuss their problems and how to solve them. Mothers' are taught the value of nutrition, using affordable and readily available fruits and vegetables.
The importance of drinking clean water is also discussed. Vaccinations and various health precautions are mentioned and they are encouraged to attend the Mirpur Clinic for regular check-ups. When the children are old enough, mothers are encouraged to send them to the S.N.D.M.A Balwadi classes at the Mirpur Center. Mothers are also told about the Mahila Samity Classes, which they may join to undergo vocational training through which they can get the opportunity to earn a livelihood and exercise their option of not generating income by working as domestic helps.
Newly married couples are taught about benefits of small families and about birth control methods. Mothers, of school going children are also advised to have meetings amongst themselves, to sort out any problem that may arise. This leads to community development and interaction.
