Kantha Center |
|
'Kantha' is a type of Quilt, involving Patch-Work and Hand-Embroidery that is indigenous to
the state of West Bengal. The S.N.D.M.A Kantha Center has, over time, earned the reputation
of being a producer of high quality Kantha-Stitched items that include Saris, Stoles, Dupattas
and Bags. Besides these items, the Center is renowned for producing Kanthas from old Cotton
and Silk Saris.
A large number of skilled but financially unstable women are engaged by the Center for meeting the demands of production. This not only provides a source of employment for these women but also brings in much-needed revenue for S.N.D.M.A when these products get sold. |
