Secretary's Speech

Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association has a long standing reputation for carrying out welfare work among the under privileged women and children of our society, and as general Secretary of this organization it gives me great pleasure to present once again the activities of our organization. The association was founded in Feb.1925 by Late Gurusaday Dutt as a fitting memorial of his wife Late Saroj Nalini Dutt. The Association is 88 years old now and has undergone a great change since its inception. It has survived so long due to the unstinted support of our members, well wishers, their sincere efforts and hard work.

Right after the AGM of 2012, the main event of the association, was the Anniversary programme held in Jan’13. This is an occasion when all the members, teachers, students, the staff and the Mahila Samities take part. The three day programme keeps the Association busy. A prayer meeting is always held in the morning an exhibition of handicrafts work of the students of Mahila Samities is one of the chief attraction. The successful students of Industrial school, Mahila Samity, Adult School and Primary school are given prizes and diplomas.

We great fully acknowledge the receipt of a donation from M.P.Lad fund with which we completed the repair work and painting of our building.

We are also grateful to the project Committee of Associated Country Women of the world for sanctioning a grant for starting a new project of Book binding, Cutting, Printing machine operation and Communicative English. This project is an endeavor to fulfill one of the objectives of the Association, i.e. empowering women with emphasis on vocational training for improving the economic condition of women. This project is nearing its completion by October. We express our heartfelt gratitude to ACWW.

The inmates of the Old Age Home of Dinante I & II and ‘Sayanneh’ are often taken out for excursions especially during the Puja. These excursions are often organized by various NGO’S.

Mahila Samity is the backbone of our Association, through which the Association promotes and develops Women’s and Children walefare. Late Saroj Nalini Dutt established few Mahila Samities way back in 1925, the first being the Suri Mahila Samity, which still exists to-day. But over the years the Mahila Samities have taken new shape, this year again the Samity has introduced a no. of new income generation plans, e.g.’Sevabrati’ training classes have started in Mirpur, besides this, the Association with the help of the Govt. of West Bengal has arranged for Artisans card, with this card they can take Govt. loans for their business purpose. A number of new samities are interested to join us.

With a view to raising fund, the Association holds an Annual exhibition, every year an occasion for all members to look forward to. Though it is a fund raising programme it comprises an elaborate spread of various stalls of different items. The exhibition is always a success and attended by all.
